Pacific Rim National Park

Pacific Rim National Park, located on the western most coast of Vancouver Island, B.C, is full of wild beauty. The pacific ocean delivers beauty and wonder to the eye, and nutrients and life to the forests. Towering cedars, and forest floors thick with ferns thrive from the rainfall and food the ocean brings them. To stand among the ocean and the trees is to understand the interconnectivity of our planet.

The National Park has become my favourite place to explore. Kayaking the waters, and walking the slippery board walks allows glimpses into others worlds.

Beach Finds

Always keeping my eyes peeled for treasure on beaches, I decided to paint a collection of my finds. Watercolour, 2020.

Tree of life

Cedar trees, otherwise known as the “Tree of Life” are truly that. Walking among the forest floor you will find nurse logs at every turn. These “dead” trees brim with life. As the tree decomposes, its hight not only gives seedlings a stepping stool for sunlight, it also provides nutrients for the growing life. Fungi and moss cling on to the decaying wood, and ferns grow in the new found sunlight. Watercolour, 2020.

The stages of Conkers

It is a 2-3 day drive for me to get to the west coast, so when I’m there I try to see as much as possible. When visiting the Royal BC Museum in Victoria I found Horse Chestnut trees (which I hadn’t seen since I left the UK!). Watercolours, 2019.
